Wage Discrimination in Top European Soccer Leagues
Migová, Patrícia ; Janhuba, Radek (advisor) ; Matoušek, Jindřich (referee)
This thesis deals with the analysis of wage discrimination in top European soccer leagues. Number of papers written about this problem in the past examined either each European league separately or did not examine particular leagues at all. Our thesis investigates discrimination between White, Black, Hispanic and Mediterranean players. We created two unique datasets, including one with game statistics from season 2018/2019 and one with average game statistics from seasons 2016/2017, 2017/2018 and 2018/2019. In addition to analysis of discrimination, we were able to investigate with two different datasets, whether player's wages are determined by statistics from the last season or by average statistics from the last three seasons. The data are examined by applying the Ordinary Least Squares method. The results of our regressions show that there does seem to exist some discrepancy in wage gap between some racial groups represented in our datasets. Our results also show that wages are better determined by the average statistics from the last three seasons.
An Empirical Investigation of Wage Discrimination in Professional Football
Blaha, Jakub ; Kocourek, David (advisor) ; Jonášová, Júlia (referee)
Salary discrimination is a phenomenon that arises from ineffective behaviour of economic subjects. Even though its presence is incompatible with the the- ory of profit maximization, salary inequality still persists in the human society. Nevertheless, the investigation of this topic has been largely unheeded in the environment of professional football. In our empirical research, we use the most recent data to investigate the salary gap between white, African American and Hispanic players in the American Major League Soccer. Besides ordinary least squares method that focuses on the impact of ethnicity for the average player, we adopted the method of quantile regression to reveal wage gap between play- ers with below-average pays. Observing each player's performance for 3 seasons, we uncovered salary discrimination against African Americans and Hispanics in the lowest decile of the salary distribution that amounts to 18.9% and 15.3%, respectively. Furthermore, we utilized the difference-in-differences (DID) esti- mator to find no effect of the increasing level of invested money on the wage gap. Occupational regulation and its influence on the labor market: evidence from reforms in the Czech Republic
Ptáčníková, Marie ; Pertold-Gebicka, Barbara (advisor) ; Gok, Ugur (referee)
This thesis examines the impact of a 2004 reform that increased educational requirements for a regulated profession, namely nurses, on earnings level for both waged and salaried employees, and employment within nurse profession in the Czech Republic. Recently, a reform in the opposite direction regarding educational requirements for general nurses is in the approval process. It makes this analysis relevant. Similar country-based studies contracted by the European Commission regarding occupational regulation show mixed results, what additionally motivates this study. To identify effects of the reform a linear probability model and a difference-in-differences analysis were used. Empirical results suggest a negative effect on nurses' salaries with respect to doctors. In the case of wages, the effect appears to be fluctuating. As for the employment, a decrease in the probability of pursuing a nurse profession was identified for the years following the reform, but mostly insignificant. In general, this thesis shows that the reform had slightly negative short-term effect on nurses' earnings and employment levels. Due to few after-reform yearly observations it is challenging to make long-term conclusions.

Jelínek, Jan ; Štědroň, Bohumír (advisor) ; Janák, Vladimír (referee)
Title: Prognosis of the German Bundesliga Objectives: The main goals of the diploma thesis were to analyse the German Bundesliga from her financial aspect and to create a prognosis of selected values until the year 2020. Methods used: First time was used the financial analysis of absolute, differential and relation indicators. Then to estimate the future development of the German Bundesliga were selected linear and exponencial trends calculated and applied with using the least squares method. On the top was calculated and applied the modified exponencial with using the method of partial sums. Results: Summary the outcome of the financial analysis through financial indicators and selected values prognosis of the German Bundesliga until the year 2020. The Salary Discrimination in NBA
Pacák, Vojtěch ; Korbel, Václav (advisor) ; Vach, Daniel (referee)
The Salary Discrimination in NBA Abstract in English Discrimination is commonly investigated throughout the labor market. This empirical study investigates salary discrimination in National basketball association. In last three decades, plenty of papers concerning this behavior have been published. However, results of them are not consistent. We use the most current data and adjusted previous models to reveal today's situation. We create a unique dataset based on statistics and personal qualities, both available on the official website of the league. We suggested two approaches that should capture different kinds of managers' thinking. The first approach controls for statistics from last three seasons, whereas the second approach covers all-career performance. For this study we used salaries from last five seasons with different sample in each period. As our sample is example of independently pooled cross sections, Ordinary Least Squares method can be used. By controlling for dummy variable white, we are able to immediately comment on salary differences between black and white players. We have not found any patterns of salary discrimination between blacks and whites variables. However, we found significant benefit given to centers. This may explain originally reported benefit for white players, as white...
Analysis of wages and salaries in the capital city of Prague
Provazník, Jan ; Šimpach, Ondřej (advisor) ; Löster, Tomáš (referee)
Wages and salaries represent important economic terms whose amount characterizes the standard of living of the population in a given territory. These terms are related to everyone who had ever decided or is going to enter into an employment relationship, which is the vast majority of population. For these reasons my bachelor thesis deals with analysis of wages and salaries in the capital city of Prague. Wages and salaries are explored in this thesis by using the indicators of gross monthly wages and salaries. The development of medians of these indicators is evaluated through graphs, basic characteristics of time series, indices and suitable trend function. The development of wages will be examined from 2001 to 2013 and salaries from 2004 to 2013. Further for 2013 the indicators are divided into groups according to socio-economic characteristics of employees. Medians of these groups are compared with each other. Furthermore, wage and salary differentiation is examined. The analysed data are obtained from the Average Earnings Information System. This thesis should provide the information about wage and salary situation in the capital city for the reader. It consists of four chapters, where the first two are theoretical and the other two are analytical parts.
Vztah akademické poctivosti a ekonomických ukazatelů států EU
Surovec, Martin
The aim of the bachelor thesis is to determine whether there are correlations between economic indicators of EU countries and academic honesty, and to explain the existing correlations. In the first part the author focuses on the issue of academic dishonesty and economic indicators, which form the basis for the practical part. In the practical part are used data from the project IPPHEAE and correlation analysis of economic indicators and academic honesty just as sub-criteria of academic honesty is carried out. The result of the research is confirmation of the existence of correlations and their clarification. The most interesting result was a negative correlation of academic honesty and a difference between wages of secondary educaated and university-educated people.
